France entered the knockout rounds as the outright favorite at roughly 22% on both Kalshi and Polymarket, ahead of Spain at ~20%. That ordering was wrong. Spain won the head-to-head 2–0 without conceding and then won the Final. France's premium came from squad reputation and one exceptional attacking record rather than from defensive numbers, which were mid-tier among the quarterfinalists all tournament.
France did deliver the Golden Boot — 10 goals from one player, the first time any player has won the award twice. Top-scorer contracts on France resolved YES even as the team contracts resolved NO, which is a useful reminder that player-level and team-level markets are genuinely independent bets.
Being the favorite and being the most likely champion at 22% are the same statement: the favorite loses about four times in five.
What the France line teaches for club-season trading
Reputation premiums persist wherever a name is famous. In the 2026-27 club markets the same effect shows up on Real Madrid and Manchester City title contracts. When a favorite is priced 3–5 points above what its underlying defensive record supports, selling the outright and buying a cheaper structural contender is the same trade that beat the France line.
